Tyler and I in the car driving to his field trip last week…
Me: Tyler, when we get there Mommy has to go potty so we have to go to the bathroom before we do anything else.
Tyler: No, Mommy, you can just pee in the mulch.
Hummm...do you think he knows that I've probably peed in mulch at some point in my life? I can thank my Mom for that. When we were little and would have to go to the bathroom, she would pull over, or take us out of sight and we would go. My Mom always said us girls could do whatever a guy does and I guess peeing on the side of the road or off the beaten path was one of those things. When you gotta go, you gotta go.
Anyway, Dave and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary last Saturday. It began romantically on Saturday morning when I took Zac to the doctor and they said he had an ear infection. His first ear infection to add to a week of being sick for the poor guy. But hey, I look on the bright side, he’s almost 8 months old and this is the first time he’s been sick. Not a bad track record if you ask me.
Jill came down to watch the kids so Dave and I could go out to dinner. We went to Del Frisco’s in the city and had a really peaceful, yummy dinner and lots of yummy drinks to go with it. We took the train and it was the first time I rode the train (Dave rides it every day to work) so obviously I had to take pictures. Thanks Aunt Jill for taking care of the kids (and a not feeling well baby)!
Usually we're holding chicken nuggets out the car window so they can cool off, but for a few hours we got to spend some time at a place where you can buy 2 ounces of liquor for $250! We'll stick with Miller Lite :)
Zac wasn’t feeling well that night so he and I had our first date in the ear infection chair. We logged many nighttime hours in this larger than life chair with Tyler when he would get ear infections and it welcomed us back with open arms. It’s very comfy for all of us. Zac woke up with hives on Sunday morning and they kept getting worse so I took him to urgent care to make sure everything was ok. They think it was something viral and switched his antibiotics just in case it was from that.
Meet the ear infection chair
Dave left to go to Ohio for work on Sunday and Grammy 911 (my Mom, thank you again) came down to watch Zac on Monday and take him to the pediatrician for me so I could go to work. In between this stuff, we got a dumpster delivered on Friday and Dave worked the entire weekend on tearing apart our master bathroom so we could start re-doing it.
So our anniversary weekend was filled with lots of excitement. Some boogie noses, ear infection, bathroom remodel, and maybe I even spiced it up a little bit and peed in the mulch :)
A little different than excitement five years ago, but I wouldn’t change any of it. Five years ago, I married my best friend, the person who balances me out perfectly. I know, I know. Sappy. But it’s for real. I couldn’t have found (or wait, he actually found me) a better husband and father for our boys and would not choose any other person to have trudged through the past 5 (umm…15) years with and look forward to the next 50!
And this morning I looked over at my hunky husband and saw he taped his glasses...oye...this is true love for sure :)
