And just like that we're 3 weeks in to Kindergarten!
September 8, 2015 was the first day of Kindergarten for Tyler at Enfield Elementary School. He handled it like a champ. He was pretty excited to start school and we even more pumped to ride the bus.
We all walked him down to the bus stop the first day. He had no hesitation about hopping on the bus and taking off on a new adventure. It helps that his buddy Jackson is in 1st grade and took super good care of Tyler. It actually made me feel so much more at ease that Jackson was on the bus with him.
So, Tyler hopped on the bus and off he went! The, Zac began to cry. The person that took this the hardest was Zac. He's so used to doing everything with his brother, including going to school with him. So we walked up the street with a crying boy, who was reaching out for his brother (so very sad).
Dave ended up walking Zac back down to the bus stop where I pulled up in my car and piked him up like I was a school bus as I said on my microphone "Bus #1, picking up!" and Zac hopped in.
Tyler's teacher is Mrs. Hannahoe. A Mom of 2 little boys, who likes to run and went to Penn State. I think we'll be just fine ;) He goes to school for the full day then goes to Kid View after school until we pick him up. He gets to see his buddies (Kyle, Kavi and Wyatt) at Kid View and it's nice since they have been attached since they were babies and now they're all separated.
Tyler's been doing pretty good at school. All in all I think the transition has been going pretty well. He apparently climbed on the radiator in the bathroom and was swinging on a stall door one day and Max told the teacher him. What the what, Max?? Clearly Max isn't an American Ninja Warrior...warriors are always training not matter where they are :)
Tyler loves riding the bus and the first week said he might like the bus better than he likes school ha! Good thing, the bus is was gets him to school. My great neighbor Katie is helping me with morning duty and taking Tyler for me on the days I work in the office and she gets Tyler on the bus with Jackson. I have no clue what I'd do without this village of friends that surrounds me in our neighborhood I am so thankful for my awesome neighbors!
Zac also switched to a new room at school. Ms. T is his new teacher and he's doing really well. He's still upset if we end up having to get Tyler on the bus before I drop him off at school, but I think he'll get used to this as time goes on.
Having 2 pickup/drop offs isn't as bad as I thought it would be and the next time we'll have one pick up/drop off location is when they're in 2nd and 4th grade. Yikes!
I'll admit, after Tyler got on the bus and I dropped Zac off on that first day I went the long way to work so I could pass Tyler's school and see if I could see him getting off the bus going in to school. My biggest fear is that he was going to get off the bus and not go in to school. Why, I have no clue? I knew he'd go in to school and there'd be tons of adults guiding them on the first day as to what they needed to do. The more people I talk to the more people I hear they had the same worry.
So 3 weeks in we're getting settled in to our new routine. There's little bits of homework coming home and he's beginning to learn how to read. Exciting!
Now, on to some first day pictures. I have some repeats as some were with my phone and others with my normal camera but I'm tired and I can't pick through them at the moment.
Note: Zac's mullet has now been cut. That's a whole other blog post but after 2.5 hours of Dave and I cutting his hair at home, he's got a nice hair cut!
