Oh Winter, you have shown your muscles this year for sure. Today Tyler said to me as we drove around looking at all the trees down in the neighborhood "I'm mad at Mother Nature, did she do this?"
On Monday, we got a foot of very heavy snow. Our neighbor's went to Florida for 5 weeks and gave us their snow blower before they left so we could use it. It's been working great until this storm when the big guns needed to be pulled out. So Dave and another neighbor had to hijack their other super powered snow blower in their shed because no one's snow blowers' would cut it. Dave ended up doing a lot of people's sidewalks and driveways with it and we're really thankful we have such great neighbors. He got done doing the front walks of two houses only to realize he was doing the road instead so he gave us all a good laugh. We honestly couldn't tell what was what.
Today we had an ice storm. We woke up at 3am to no power. It came back on at 6am and that never happens in our neighborhood. It's always out for days I swear. There's so many trees down because there was already heavy snow on everything. We laid in bed and listened to transformers blow, trees snap and fire whistles go off no stop for 3 hours last night. I don't like that. I went down to talk to one of our neighbors this afternoon and they have a pine tree branch sitting on an electrical wire in their back yard and it's on fire, a small fire, but still a fire. Dave left for Wyoming at 4:30 this morning (Ryan had to get out of his car 3 times to move trees this morning as he drove to our house), so Dave's home free and my Mom and I are holding down the fort. Thankfully she came down to help me else I might lose my mind. Daycare doesn't have power, my work doesn't have it and 650,000 more people don't either and somehow we lucked out this time. Thank you Lord! I love snow, but juggling working with school delays and cancellations is hard. Just another such is life moment with two working parents I guess. Mama needs a vacation...for now, I guess I'll settle for Rocky Road ice cream on the couch once the kids go to bed and maybe an episode of House Hunters.
Other news, I got new digs at work. An office! Tyler has been baking at school and we get to eat it. I think he bakes better than I do or at least can throw together a pie better than I can. We've had the Dauksis family for two nights as they moved in between houses, riding new bikes on a 40 degree day (it's been so cold it felt like it was 80), play dates where markers were unsupervised and selfies of my buddy and I.
