What's going on...

We ran a 5k last weekend...my Mom came in 1st place for her division of 60 and over! Go Mom! Dave and I came in 3rd in our divisions and my sister finished 30 seconds behind me!

I've never been really good at bargain shopping, but I made a HUGE score at a yard sale! All of this for $10 :)

I think we've got a switch hitter on our hands

Alex and Sydney had their annual dance recital! Here's some snapshots of the little dance biscuits...

Synchronization at its best!

Mama biscuit also danced :)

Tyler had his Spring Show at school this week. He did great on stage and while most of the kids in his class were crying he just sat there and looked at everyone. I couldn't get that good of pictures because we were hiding so he wouldn't see us :)

AND we finally got rid of the smelly blue blankie! I'm keeping it though so I can give it to him when he's 30. My Mom just recently gave me my blankie back :) He's now sleeping all snuggly with a new green blankie. We thought if we gave him the new one in the dark he wouldn't know, but he definitely knew. After a dirty look and a sigh he saw it had arms to suck on and life was good again!

16 months

This is such a cool age! Here's some fun facts about the dude...
  • Rides his little car down the driveway, loves going on wagon rides to the ice cream shop and loves his new basketball hoop

  • Still loves dogs and lets out the biggest squeal of excitement when he sees one. He has lots of dog friends on our street and that's good because I highly doubt he'll ever get one of his own - we'll just pretend those dogs are ours

  • He's forever exploring in the yard. He likes to water the plants and can roam around for hours just picking up branches, leaves, garden tools or anything else that is in his path.

  • Feeds himself with a fork pretty well. We're working on the spoon because he likes to turn it upside down and then everything falls off.

  • Is a definite social bug and says Hi and Bye to everyone!

  • We had our first public puke incident this past weekend to ring in his 16 month bday. We were at the The Gap and he was coughing so hard he threw up all over himself, me and the floor...right next to the table with white pants on it (insert this bullet point in to Joys of Parenthood category). We're happy the cough is now gone.

  • He has lots of words now and here's some of our favorites: basketball (bat-ball), Elmo (melmo), down (because he uses this deep voice when he says it), love you (wuv wu), Pop (making his Grandpas happy with this one), bubbles, Rae (a 3 year old girl at school...he's in to older women), Ry-Ry and his attempt to say Wyatt (which sounds something like Whhyyyyy).

  • Funny thing is he still won't say the word Dog. All he'll do is bark when we ask him to say it. I'm hoping by time he's 18 he'll finally break down and say it because I'm not sure if they'll let a barking kid in to college. I guess we have some time to work on it :)

  • Gives lots of high fives and fist bumps! And likes to give bumps to our neighbor Jake :) He loves trying to do what Jake is doing, but Jake is 10 so it doesn't always work out!

  • We were on the swing the other day and I was counting to 3 so I could jump off and when I said 1, he said 2!

  • I think we had our first talking back moment. At school Tyler had 2 toys and I guess there's a rule where they can only have 1 at a time. The teacher told him that he could only have 1 toy and he told her "No - 2"!

Shootin some hoops

Enjoying an OJ ice pop!

Tonight at dinner Dave and Tyler had a pretty intense tug of war game with a plate. He isn't crying in the last picture, that's his game face :)

We got him a set of golf clubs today and he took one putt and then it was on to club swinging...that makes more sense since we're not much of a golfing family

A litte bit of everything

Grab yourself a drink, this is a long one...

It seems like things always happen for us in the beginning of May. Last Friday marked 14 years since Dave officially "asked me out" and we became a couple. On the same day Pop-Pop passed away. May 6th 1997 was a day I'll never forget for both reasons and even though we have a wedding anniversary to celebrate now, I'll never stop remembering that day. Fast forward to 2009 and within the first week of May I found out I was pregnant with Tyler and a few days later my Dad passed away. I truly believe when one person passes another enters your life and this is why God gave me my guys ♥

On a random note, prom season is in full swing! Last Friday the Prom came to our street and it was filled with tons of high schoolers running around in tuxes and dresses getting their picture taken. Apparently, asking someone to the prom now a days is like a marriage proposal. I feel old saying it, but when we went to the prom it was a pretty simple question. Now, it's a huge thing to make it a production to ask someone. So, all I was thinking was "Holy Crap! We better get Tyler's game plan together for asking a girl to the prom because who knows what it'll be like in 15 years!" To keep with the theme, I thought I'd dip in to the archives. Here we are with my Dad for our prom in 1998.

On Saturday, we went to an awesome birthday party for Camille (our friend Nichole's daughter) at Pony Party Paradise! The kids got to ride horses (or in Tyler and Owen's case...look at them from a far and scream when we try to put them on the horse) and check out lots of animals. They also got to feed the animals and while Tyler was scared to ride the horse, he had no problem feeding and petting the llamas, horses and goats.

Ms. Camille - the birthday girl!

Ms. Chloe

Mr. Owen

Ms. Julia

Watching everyone ride the horses

Pondering if he should actually get on one or not

He decided that the wodden one was better

He doesn't quite yet know that a llama is capable of chomping his fingers off!

It was a fun day and we had some pretty pooped boys on the car ride home!

Next up was Mother's day! We spent the weekend hanging out with our Moms and got to visit with Dave's Aunt Ruth who was in from Texas. It was a nice relaxing weekend. Dave and I are blessed to have such wonderful Moms! We didn't take many pictures so here's what we have to document this Mother's Day...

Poop check...every Mom can appreciate this picture :)

I'm a proud Mom...one minute he's helping Dad with the umbrella stand and the next minute looked like he should be auditioning to be a Chippendale or Mr. January :)

Taking a ride at the nursery...

Tyler had his ear tube check up yesterday and everything looked great! He hasn't had an ear infection since he's got them in, so we threw away our frequent flyer card for ear infections! They retested his hearing and everything is 100% normal now (other than the fact that he still has selective hearing with the word "No", which will most likely continue for at least the next 20-30 years). He also ended up getting a chest x-ray done while we were at the hospital because he's had a cough for about 2 weeks and his lungs also looked good! We can now check Radiology off on our list of places that we've visited.

We also had our first parent/teacher conference this week. We got a really good report and it was nice to have some time to talk with his teacher, Ms. Karla. She said he's a very kind and caring little guy who loves art and being outside - Mom and Dad are proud of you T! She loves the kids so much and is lots of fun. I'm so happy that we can rest easy while we're at work and that he has such a great teacher and school! It's amazing how much he's learning and he constantly surprises us with what he knows! Makes a working Mama happy :)

I was having a "He's really growing up" moment. For a few minutes Tyler played in the yard while I got his dinner ready :)

Watching Dad climb the tree...won't be long before he's up there too!

Next up, Uncle Richard and Aunt Deborah are in town and Dave is having a guys weekend with some camping and going to a Nascar race in Dover tomorrow. I get to have a night with the girls and Tyler - yippee!

All Smiles :)

I brought out the bubbles today and they were a huge hit - with all the guys!

All packed and ready to go drink beer and watch cars go in circles really fast!

Some may think I saved the best for last ;) What else goes better with Nascar than Guns and Camo! A friend got us this calendar last week :)

Check out Ms. September - stunning!

Our week so far

This past Sunday, Dave, our friend Ryan and our neighbor Ben and I ran in the Broad Street Run. It's the largest 10 mile race in the country and 30,000 people ran this year. We didn't plan on doing it, but Ben had some friends who signed up and couldn't run so we decided (on a whim) that we'd do it. It was kind of a way for me to test myself since I don't work out like I use to and working out now consists of running after a toddler! This new workout must be working because we finished right in the middle of the pack in 1hr and 35 min. It felt great to get out there and run! We don't have any pictures...all we came home with was some sunburn, sore legs, a medal and memories :) Our friend Juli watched Tyler for us that morning (thanks Juli!) and when we got home Tyler was saying Gaga and doing the monster thing with his hands that Lady Gaga fans do! Julie loves Lady Gaga and taught him a new trick - I love it! Hopefully I can get it on video along with him saying his newest words "Love You" :)

Things are getting pretty disgusting in the food department with Tyler. He's starting to experiment and mix, dip and do all kinds of stuff with his food. The other day he was dipping bananas in ranch dressing and today he was dipping pizza in peach yogurt. I don't like to mix my food or let alone have it touch on my plate so he must have got this one from his Dad ;)

When Tyler wakes up before I'm done getting ready for work, he lays in our bed, eats a morning snack, drinks milk and watches cartoons...ahhh here's Prince Tyler livin the life!

Sporting his new Phillies hat from our neighbor. She got it for her son, but it didn't fit so they passed it on to us.
